watch rachel luna (aka girlconfident) shave her head
On July 2, 2019 I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. It is known to be the most aggressive form of breast cancer. That night, I couldn't sleep.
I was shocked, stunned, and numb. So I did what anyone else would do and I turned to Instagram. I began searching the #breastcancersurvivor. I wanted to see who was part of this new club I had just joined.
One woman stuck out. Her name was Michelle (Chelley to her friends). She didn't look sick. She looked strong, healthy and vibrant. She was in a gym, wearing boxing gloves with a punching bag behind her and her hashtags said, "#bowdowncancer #nochemo #noradiation
Immediately I wanted to know more about her because I knew that I didn't want to pursue conventional chemotherapy or radiation and rather wanted to heal with natural alternatives.
I stalked her IG feed and then slid into her DM's (like a total crazy person). Normally I wouldn't message a random stranger and share my whole life story, but this was different.
MY LIFE WAS AT STAKE.
Chelley responded the very next morning (remember I messaged her at about 3am) and my alternative healing journey began.
She told me how she had gone to a hospital in Mexico for alternative treatment, how she became cancer free in less than a year, and how today - a year later - she was thriving, healthy and happy.
I wanted in on that.
On July 24, 2019 the tumor in my right breast was removed and on August 3, 2019 I arrived at CHIPSA in Mexico.
The cost for a 3-week, in-patient stay at CHIPSA is $33,000 ($35,000 with some additional treatments. There's no payment plan and no insurance covers it. Both Chelley and I paid this expense out of pocket.
And it's advised that she and I go back to the hospital every 3-6 months in the first year to get our next round of treatments to ensure we stay cancer free for the long haul.
Chelley hasn't been back to CHIPSA since her first visit more than a year ago. And I want to change that.
I'm scheduled to go back to CHIPSA in Nov/Dec 2019 and I want Chelley to be able to go too!
She needs these treatments just as much as I do.
That's where the idea for the "Donate to Spectate" campaign comes in.
Although it's incredibly RARE, some people do lose their hair due to some of the treatments we received at CHIPSA. And of course, because I was born to be the exception, your girl (that's me!), is one of those rare people.
My hair has been falling out in an alarming rate for the last 3 weeks and it's time for me to shave what's left off.
IF WE RAISE $10,000 by Monday, September 9, 2019, I WILL SHAVE MY HEAD LIVE!!
All donors will receive a secret link to watch the show.
Every single cent will go towards paying Chelley's expenses to get back to CHIPSA in their out-patient program.
The outpatient program is roughly $6,700 per week plus travel and lodging. It would be ideal for her to go at least 2 weeks.
For Chelley and I to both attend for 2 weeks, it would roughly cost $26,800 plus travel + lodging.
If we raise anything above $26,800, I will donate the surplus to other cancer patients who are currently healing naturally.
A full, itemized report of receipts will be published on my website in January 2020 after we get back showing you where your money went, down to the penny.
I hope you'll partner with myself, Chelley and I with the confidence of knowing that as I continue to heal, my commitment throughout the entire journey will be to share what I learn, add value (and tons of entertainment) to your life, and continue to be a resource for you to create a more confident life.
THANK YOU so much for your time & generous donations.
